Abseiling (or rappelling) is a controlled descent down a vertical drop using a rope. Participants wear a harness connected to a rope system, which is managed by an instructor. It's a technique used in climbing, mountaineering, and rescue operations, allowing individuals to safely lower themselves down steep surfaces.

The Anfield abseil experience involves climbing to the roof of the Main Stand, one of the largest all-seater single stands in European football. From this vantage point, you'll take in panoramic views of Liverpool's skyline. Then, you will lean back over the edge and begin your 100ft (approx. 30m) abseil down the side of the stadium. As you descend, you'll pass directly by the gigantic official LFC crest before safely landing at the base. Expert instructors are with you every step of the way, ensuring your safety. The experience also includes complimentary access to the LFC Museum.

Generally, the operating hours on abseiling days are between 10am and 5pm.

  • Your shoulders, midriff, and upper legs should be covered.
  • You are not allowed to wear loose clothing. This includes long skirts and flowing cardigans.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes, trainers, or boots that will not fall off. Open-toe shoes, sandals, flip-flops, and high heels are not allowed.
  • Long hair must be tied back.
  • Jewellery and scarves must be removed.
  • We recommend wearing a waterproof jacket and dressing in warm layers.
  • You can wear your glasses and/or hearing aids as long as they are not loose-fitting.

  • Age: Children above the age of 10 years are welcome to take part in the Anfield Abseil. Participants under 18 years will require parental consent.
  • Weight: Participants need to be under 19 stone or 130kg and must be able to fit in the harness, which has a maximum waist width of 130 cm and a maximum upper thigh width of 75cm. 
  • Other restrictions: Pregnant women cannot take part in the Abseil experience.
  • Alcohol: There is a zero-tolerance policy on alcohol consumption before the abseil experience.

  • Storage: Valuables boxes will be offered where you can store your belongings, including handbags and small rucksacks, during the abseil experience. However, large bags are not allowed.
  • Digital photographs: The abseil team will take pictures of you throughout the abseil experience. These are available to view and purchase afterward via the QR code on your wristband.
  • Parking: If you are visiting on a non-matchday, you can park in Stanley Park car park. Spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The staff at Anfield Stadium need to be informed at least 2 weeks before the Anfield Abseil about your accessibility requirements. This will allow the team to cater to your needs and ensure that the correct equipment and staffing are available.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Anfield Abseil experience

When should I arrive for the experience?

Please arrive at least 15-30 mins before your time slot assigned to your Abseil experience.

What if I’m late?

If you’re late for the Anfield Abseil experience, you may be accommodated on a later abseil experience, subject to availability. If not, no refunds will be issued to you.

How long does the experience last?

The experience normally lasts 1–2 hours. However, it may take longer if there are nervous participants who need more time, or in case of harsh weather conditions.

What happens in case of bad weather?

While most abseil experiences take place on the day and time of your booking, your experience may be postponed due to strong winds, heavy rain, or electrical storms. You can choose another date according to your suitability, subject to availability.

What if I change my mind about the abseil?

Your instructors will help you throughout the experience. However, if you change your mind on the day, you will not be issued a refund or allowed to postpone your experience.

Can I just watch the experience?

While you can’t accompany the participants into the stadium without a tour ticket or the abseil ticket, you can get a great view from the ground near the John Holding Bust on 97th Avenue.

Can I book a stadium tour on the same date as an abseil?

​Yes, you can book a stadium tour on the same day as your Abseil, where available. It is recommended to book online in advance to avoid disappointment.

Can I cancel my booking?

You can cancel your experience up to 24 hours before the experience.
